New Year's Day, 2024!

We woke to a cloudy morning where we couldn't see the city across the lake, but a little after sunrise @ 9:39, the sky cleared up completely. So despite the temp of -10°C/ 14°F, we went skiing... because that's why we came here.

Sometimes, you come around a corner and it takes your breath away!

11:50 AM, for those keeping track.

See, Sheila realy DOES ski!

Zoom in and check out the icy beard!

New skis, new boots, just for this trip!  Not too fond of the manual bindings, though.

Our favorite after-ski lunch spot, Tages Konditori & Kök
(Tage's Bakery and Kitchen)
"Your living-room away from home!" is their motto.

Burger of the month...pickled onions, bacon, apple marmelade and a mild blue cheese.
Since it's a holiday special, the burger bun is made with saffron!
Bearnaise sauce to dip the fries into.  Lars got blue cheese.

Lars got the same burger.

He was SUPPOSED to look at the pics I took earlier!!

Quite the sunset, @ 1:55 PM.

And we got to watch it most of the way home.

The view from Vallsund Bridge.  We are headed South-West.

And there she goes! 2:00 PM.
We're on the northeast side of the ridge, so it goes down extra early.

And OF COURSE we brought home goodies for later.
A "biskvi" for Lars (a macaroon, chocolate cream filling, chocolate ganache),
and a "saffransbulle" for Sheila (saffron bun....the last of the holiday saffron, I suspect).

The Long Trip Home

Due to Icelandair not flying direct to Denver in the winter (which was not obvious when we booked the flights), we're now in for a 24- ...
